Scottish Policy Innovation Forum

The next SPIF meeting will be Poverty and employment. This meeting will consider issues pertaining to recurrent poverty, employment and income and will examine the options available for employers and policymakers. Papers will be given by Professor Ron McQuaid (Edinburgh Napier) and Morag Gillespie (Glasgow Caledonian), and discussants will include Tony Rush (CBI Scotland Council).We are delivering this seminar in partnership with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
This meeting will take place in the Royal Society of Edinburgh, George Street, Edinburgh, 1pm-4:30pm on Monday 14 June 2010.

Climate Change, Housing and Poverty: A Healthy Housing Manifesto for Scotland

Zero Tolerance For Fuel Poverty, Carbon Emissions And Sick Homes. SPIU will host this conference at Glasgow Caledonian University. Delegates will have an opportunity to develop a healthy housing manifesto for Scotland, to address the challenges of adequate housing, poverty and climate change. Keynote speakers will examine the links between energy efficiency and health inequalities; fuel poverty and low carbon housing; current climate change policy and legislation.We are producing this conference in association with Legal Services Agency and the Caledonian Environment Centre.

Devolution and ten years of anti-poverty policy making in Scotland

Dr. Sinclair and Dr. McKendrick will present a paper on the theme of ‘Ending child poverty in Scotland – responsibilities, actions, plaudits and failings’ as part of Devolution and Ten Years of Anti-Poverty Making in Scotland session in the Ten Years On conference co-convened by the University of the West of Scotland and Glasgow Caledonian University. Professor Geoff Whittam and Professor Mike Danson, and Dr Carlo Morelli and Dr Gerry Mooney will also be presenting. This session has support from the Academy of Social Sciences.
