  • SPIU Briefing 1:  Financial Capability  Published in January 2009 and written by Louise Dobbie (SPIU). This briefing paper provides a definition of financial capability alongside an overview of recent policy changes and responses.
  • SPIU Briefing 2: Debt and Money Advice written by Morag Gillespie. This briefing paper provides an overview of the development of money advice as one response to growing levels of indebtedness.

  • SPIU Briefing 3: Financial Inclusion:  Access to insurance   written by Kate Lindsay. This briefing paper provides a brief overview of access to home insurance for low income households.


Historical Series

The original SPIU Briefing Sheets were published between 1997 and 2003. These briefing sheets were sponsored by a wide range of Third Sector and public sector organisations and were often co-authored by SPIU staff and external experts.  As these briefings are outdated, they are no longer available to download.  However, hard and soft copies of these briefing sheets are available on request.  Please contact spiu@gcal.ac.uk for more details.  The series comprised:
