Climate Change, Housing and Poverty: A Healthy Housing Manifesto for Scotland 25 June 2009
Zero Tolerance For Fuel Poverty, Carbon Emissions And Sick Homes. SPIU hosted this conference at Glasgow Caledonian University. Delegates had an opportunity to develop a healthy housing manifesto for Scotland, to address the challenges of adequate housing, poverty and climate change. Keynote speakers examined the links between energy efficiency and health inequalities; fuel poverty and low carbon housing; current climate change policy and legislation.SPIU produced this conference in association with Legal Services Agency and the Caledonian Environment Centre. 10 Years of Devolution: Poverty and Inequalities in Scotland 29 May 2009
In association with Scotland’s Future Forum, SPIU hosted a conference in the Chamber of the Scottish Parliament looking at poverty and inequalities. Specifically, the conference explored how the Scottish Parliament, over its first 10 years, has reduced the poverty and inequality gap in Scotland. It also presented views on what the Parliament should be doing in the next 10 years to further reduce poverty and inequality in Scotland. Download the Briefing Paper and the Conference Report.

This event reviewed the development of SPIU and how it aims to make a difference. John McKendrick (Director, SPIU) chaired the event and presentations were delivered by: Professor Mike Smith (Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research, Glasgow Caledonian University); Morag Gillespie (Deputy Director, SPIU); Professor Paul Spicker (Centre for Public Policy and Management, The Robert Gordon University); and Andy Milne (Chief Executive, Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum). The first of the new series of briefing papers from SPIU, 'Financial Capability' by Louise Dobbie, was launched at this event.
